Your Action Required: Changes to Postini bundling with Google Apps

Subject: Your Action Required: Changes to Postini bundling with Google Apps
Date: 1 February, 2012 12:24:41 AM EST

Hello Oleg,

Important: This message describes changes to the Postini services bundled with Google Apps and the actions required of you as a Google Apps Reseller.

WHAT'S CHANGING

We recently released new Gmail message-filtering features for Google Apps, including compliance footers, approved/blocked senders, attachment controls, and more. These features are comparable to those offered with Google Message Security.

The new offering makes it easier for Google Apps administrators to manage all their email settings in a single interface. As a result, we are no longer offering integrated Google Message Security (GMS) with Google Apps, and will require users to migrate their email filters settings to Apps.

YOUR CURRENT CUSTOMERS USING INTEGRATED GMS

Current Apps customers with integrated GMS will be required to move their configuration settings to Google Apps policies and change their MX records to point to Gmail.

Exceptions: Integrated GMS customers who have added Postini archiving or encryption services will not be migrated at this time.

Actions Required
In early February, we'll begin emailing both reseller customers and direct customers with instructions on how to move their email filters from integrated GMS from Google Apps.

Note: Normally, we would not contact your customers directly. However, this migration requires contacting Google Apps administrators who use Postini integrated services so we can track their Postini service status, which is managed through our systems.

After the primary Google Apps administrator receives an automated migration notification from Google, they can access a special Transition tab in the Postini Admin Console that walks them through the migration process.

Customers will be notified in batches beginning in February, and customers will be given 45 days to migrate their settings. If customers do not take action, their email will be routed directly to Gmail without any filtering through Postini.

Completion of the migration for all customers from the integrated GMS to Google Apps settings is targeted  the end of June 2012. See the FAQ link at the end of this message for details on the migration steps and schedule.

Action: We request that you notify your customers immediately before they receive the automated email from Google. Following is the template you can customize:

YOUR CURRENT CUSTOMERS USING INTEGRATED GMS
Your current customers using the standalone Message Security service with Google Apps will not be affected by this migration process.

YOUR NEW CUSTOMERS
Your new customers should use the email-filtering capabilities in Google Apps. No Postini services needed.

Exceptions: You may continue to order Postini services for your Google Apps customers who require:
  • Delivery manager (email routing) capabilities
  • TLS encryption
  • Message archiving
There are no changes to the ordering process or pricing; add the $0 GMS product and purchase the additional services to your Google Apps order as usual.

MORE INFORMATION AND RESOURCES
We realize that this is a significant change, and we appreciate your assistance with the transition. Over the coming months, we will continue to enrich Google Apps email with new features, including split delivery and encryption options.
